Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to assist with a dispute at a rural property in the Municipality of Trent Lakes, off of the Forest Access Road on Friday, May 26 shortly after noon.
A guided group of American hunters were utilizing dogs while bear hunting on Crown Land. The dogs, being monitored by GPS, ended up on private property adjacent to the intended hunting area. Before the group could catch up to and retrieve their dogs, they heard gunshots in the area. One of the dogs died after being allegedly shot by the landowner, Ronald Lemieux.
Lemieux (age 67) of Trent Lakes, was arrested and charged with Careless use of a Firearm. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on July 13
