Selwyn CIP Update open house
October 13, 2017
BY TERRY GILLIS
On October 5, Selwyn township held a Community Improvement Plan Update open house at the Council Chambers on Centre line.
The open house began with a forty-minute overview of what the Community Improvement Plan (CIP) is, a brief review of the results of the CIP for the last four years, a discussion surrounding any gaps or issues in the existing program and the recommendations for a proposed revision and/or additions to the CIP areas.
The council chambers were full during the presentation as primarily business owners listened to an outline of the three incentive programs currently being offered (and the possible addition of four more) and the expansion of two of the four core CIP areas.
It was proposed that the four primary zones --Lakefield, Bridgenorth, Ennismore and Young’s Point-- be designated CIP area one. The expanded commercial, industrial, institutional and agri-tourism properties in Lakefield and Bridgenorth be designated CIP area 2 and everything else be designated area 3.
One attendee asked whether the $50,000 total CIP budget would increase with the added properties and areas and was informed that to date, the program had not reached the maximum budget so it was unlikely that the budget would need to be adjusted.
Following the presentation a number of people left, however, staff and Council were available to answer questions from the public until 8:00 p.m.
